Aqua blasting, or vapour blasting, is a method of cleaning metal components and antiques without damaging them. Unlike other blasting methods that can remove surface material and alter dimensions, aqua blasting leaves the original dimensions intact while removing dirt, grime, carbon deposits, oil, and grease.
We cosmetically finish parts from: Aluminium, Magnesium, Copper, Brass, Bronze, Titanium and Stainless Steel.
Aqua blasting (also known as vapour blasting), is a wet blasting process perfect for cleaning Aluminium, Bronze, Magnesium, Titanium, Brass, Copper and Stainless Steel. It will gently clean the surface without damage to gasket faces as it is a non-erosive process – even carburettors can be blasted!
It produces a very even satin polished finish and gently peens the surface reducing porosity from casting or previous corrosion and relieving surface stresses.
This finish is easy to keep clean; aluminium especially will look “fresh out of the mould” and have a sought-after finish for items such as untreated engine casings.
Aqua blasting is also a good starting point to obtaining a highly polished finish or applying protective coatings. Aqua blasting in action:
- Non-aggressive, non-erosive
- No impregnation of abrasive media
- Very effective cleaning procedure leaving an “as new finish”
- Ideal for any components from engine and gearbox casings to barrels and carbs
How We Do It
On arrival, your components will be stripped, removing all bearings and other ‘internals’ if required.
The components are then aqua blasted to produce that nice satin sheen finish and thoroughly cleaned and dried. Various treatments can be applied to protect finished items in the short term – please let us know if ferrous metals are to be re-coated.
We Can Aqua Blast Following Items
- Engine and Gearbox Casings
- Cylinder Heads
- Cylinder Blocks
- Engine Covers
- Water Pump Housings
- Motorcycle and Car Wheel Hubs
- Suspension Arms
- … many other, please contact us for more details
Parts ideally should be supplied completely stripped down with all bearings and seals removed – Plain bushings , studs and dowels can remain fitted. All parts must be reasonably degreased.
What is Aqua Blasting or Vapour Blasting?
Unlike other ‘Blasting Techniques’ Aqua Blasting is a completely safe operation which removes dirt, corrosion and other contaminants and with no damage to the material itself.
What can be Aqua Blasted?
Aqua blasting (also known as vapour blasting or slurry blasting), is a wet blasting process perfect for cleaning Aluminium, Bronze, Magnesium, Titanium, Brass, Copper and Stainless Steel.
How much does Aqua Blasting cost?
At Bristol Wheel Alignment we start from £60+VAT per hour with a minimum time requirement, usually around 30 minutes. Other factors such as the type of abrasive media used will also affect the cost. Please contact us for a quotation.
How long does Aqua Blasting take?
It depends on the item, but in some cases we may be able to do them while you wait – by prior appointment. It is always better to give us a call or contact us before visiting us.
Will Aqua Blasting remove paint?
Yes it does. It combines a thin film of water with fine blasting media. This technique can remove: dirt, contaminants, rust, corrosion, and old paint from a wide range of surfaces.
Is wet blasting the same as vapour blasting?
No, they are similar but different. There are many reasons why you will enjoy a much better finished result with the vapour Blasting solution, over wet blasting.
Is aqua blasting better then sand blasting?
Aqua blasting and sand blasting are similar, but vapor blasting includes an additional step of incorporating water. This results in less dust and a more consistent finish. On the other hand, sand blasting is more suitable for tougher materials and has more power.
